The Essence of Christmas

All I want for Christmas is Peace on Earth, an abundance of resources for the world and LOVE in everyone’s heart.  Too much? I don’t think so.

What is Christmas?

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about Christmas. What does it mean to me? I would like to draw reference to the views of two writers. The first is J.C Penney who wrote, ‘Christmas is not just a time for merrymaking.  It is more than that. It is a time for contemplation of eternal things. The Christmas spirit is a spirit of giving and forgiving.’

Next is the thought-provoking word of George F. McDougall ‘Christmas means a spirit of love, a time when the love of God and the love of our fellow men should prevail over the hatred and bitterness, a time when our thoughts and deeds and the spirit of our lives manifest the presence of God.’

It’s about sharing with others, embracing peace and being our brother’s keeper.  The spirit behind Christmas is that of giving and sharing.

I feel extremely fortunate that the people in my life have provided for themselves quite well.  Everyone has all they need and then some. And the same goes for me. I have everything I need in this life.  So, although Christmas can be a time for spoiling those we love, giving that extra something to show you love them and have been paying attention to who they are… this year (and last year as a matter of fact) my gift to my family and friends have been a donation to the Treasure Beach Youth Group in Jamaica.

Now, if your immediate thought to this is… what a scam.  No one gets a gift from her… you’re well mistaken. This is the true essence of Christmas, in my opinion.  Being able to give to those less fortunate. Being able to provide something to someone that wouldn’t otherwise get to experience it.  And in turn… giving my family and friends the opportunity to be involved in something like this. I’ve heard many times, from many people, I want to help, I want to give and get involved, I just don’t know how.  So I feel, this is providing that experience as well. The gift of GIVING.

A little bit about the Treasure Beach Summer Camp…

Its a two-week camp held in Treasure Beach Jamaica. It started with about 15 kids and has, in the last three years, grown to about 60 kids.  Our vision is to support the continued growth and development of the Treasure Beach Summer Camp. Our donations will help by providing art supplies, sports equipment, fun learning tools,  transportation, food and so much more. Creating activities that grow abilities. Worthy Beyond Purpose has been invited back for the third year in a row to teach our program… The Zone. Here we get to teach breath work, yoga, meditation, visualizations, and all around mindfulness.  Talk about a gift!

Over the past two years, we have been able to donate over $2000 and we are extremely grateful to all those who have forgone their Christmas gifts to give to the greater cause and to actually make a lasting difference in these kids lives.  If this is something you’d like to take a part in or are interested in just checking out Treasure Beach please check them out at ….

Special shout out to my family… who has given the last two years. The family that Gives together Grows together!
